International Centre for Dramatic arts “Franco Zeffirelli”
The famous Florentine director and screenwriter Franco Zeffirelli can finally say his biggest wish has come true. The opening of the International Centre for Dramatic Arts Franco Zeffirelli is opening in Florence and invites each and every one of us to entre his world, displaying all kinds of hidden treasures from his career in cinema, music and theatre. Yet Franco’s life wasn’t always a bed of roses: born out of wedlock, his mother died when he was just six years old, and he had to wait until his nineteenth birthday for his father to recognise him as his son. Because of these family difficulties, he stayed at the Istituto degli Innocenti for a few months, until one of his aunts took him into custody. However, this turbulent childhood gave him the motivation he needed to dedicate himself to his creative career. After graduating from the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Florence, he began assisting the famous director Visconti, before producing his own films. These include Romeo and Juliet (1968), Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1972). The Franco Zeffirelli Centre is offering advanced training courses for film production.
