Alceste di C. W. Gluck

At the Opera di Firenze, a very special
Florentine Orchestra director takes the stage

The essence of Florence safeguards and cultivates the artistic soul of figures that are known around the world. Among the ranks of the many talented, it is worth mentioning the story of Federico Maria Sardelli. Internationally-acclaimed musicologist and orchestra director and a specialist of the Baroque period, today he is the highest living authority when it comes to Vivaldi’s repertoire. Self-taught, pure and passionate, he has reached the top levels of this particular field of music. Each of his performances instills in the public a sense of wonder and poetry. A unique marvel! His art is not limited to directing orchestras. He is also an excellent painter and writer, and has long made satirical cartoons for the legendary Livorno-based weekly, Il Vernacoliere. With this introduction, we are certain that his presence on the podium of Alceste by Gluck for the 300th anniversary of the Bavarian composer’s birth will be nothing short of extraordinary. With a set-up by director Pier Luigi Pizzi, and co-produced by the Fondazione Teatro La Fenice and the Fondazione Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Florentine culture will once again be marked by beauty.
