Galleria Continua - San Gimignano and international artists in Tuscany
Galleria Continua was first established in 1990 in San Gimignano. At that time no one would have thought that, by being in such an unexpected location and far from the big urban centers of Tuscany, the gallery could ever become an international centre of contemporary art. San Gimignano is a medieval village, seemingly unchanged since it was first established and still enveloped in its rich history. Yet tucked away in a previously abandoned cinema which has now been restored to life, Galleria Continua allows the greatest contemporary artists to meet. This contrast between old and new which the gallery embodies has been followed by many others – the rural and the industrial, the local and the global, the art of the past and that of the present, famous artists and emerging artists – and Galleria Continua has come to represent the possibility of enjoying art in the heart of Tuscany.
Your next opportunity to explore the gallery’s incredible dimension will be starting 26th of May 2018, with an exhibition featuring the artworks of Daniel Buren and Anish Kapoor. Daniel is a French conceptual artist known for his architectural side specific installations, his work is conceived specially for the space of the former cinema and theatre. Anish instead, with its immersive installations, generates perceptions able to deceive and amaze the observer.
