Thom Yorke chooses Florence for the first date of his solo tour
“Florence is impressed in my memory,” says Thom Yorke, the heart of Radiohead, who chose his beloved city for the first date of his new solo tour in Europe, on May 28. Yorke fell in love with Florence in the summer of 2000, standing in front of Botticelli’s Primavera, when his eyes widened and he felt faint. A lover of contrasts, Yorke liked the fact that the city of light was home to one of the greatest narrators of the shadow of human conscious: Dante. This flirtation has distant roots, dating in the band’s beginnings, when in 1994, the year of Pablo Honey, the Oxford-based band performed on the intimate stage of the Auditorium Flog to a handful of curious concert goers, attracted by that first example of measured disregard for banality. It was a concert for the history books!
