From the upper porch of the Palazzo Strozzi, two monumental slides, 20 metres tall, will descend into the Renaissance courtyard. The piece is outwardly playful, but in reality, the emotions of those who participate in the experience are registered and compared with the growth and reactions of plants. The Florence Experiment is the title of the new site-specific project by the German artist Carsten Höller and the neurobiologist Stefano Mancuso, who studies empathy between plant organisms and human beings. The spaces inside the Palazzo Strozzi will be used in a totally innovative way, with two major situations involving visitors: the breath-taking descent in a sacred place of art in Florence and access to two special projection rooms in the Strozzina. Art, science and technology in a never-before-seen event curated by Arturo Galansino, director of the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi.
